About Us

Founded In 1886 - Elim Baptist Church emerged from Cumming Grove and was organized at the home of Deacon Albert Taylor.

Pastors of Elim 1886 – 1927

1886: Reverend S. A. McNeal served as pastor.

1886: Rev. McNeal and members dedicated the new church building.

1887: Reverend W. G. Johnson served as pastor for 11 years.

1898: Reverend S. C. Walker served for 21 years.

1920: Reverend James Hinton served as Acting Pastor.

1920: Reverend C. R. Pinkston served for 5 years.

1925: Reverend W. R. Mack served for 3 years.

1927: The Senior Missionary Society was organized.

Reverend Robert Lewis Boyd, Pastor (1929- 1983)

February 1929: Reverend Robert Lewis Boyd was called to pastor Elim Baptist Church.

1954: The educational annex building was constructed.

April 1963: Mrs. Gilbert organized a singing group and named it the R. L. Boyd Chorus.

February 1971: A special program was created to support Augusta's historically black college, Paine College.

1976: The Primary Choir was organized and directed by Sister Barbara Hammond and Sister Anne Golden.

June 1980: The Service Guild was organized. Elim made the first donation to the Christian Haitian Outreach.

September 1983: Reverend Robert Lewis Boyd retired after 54 years.

Reverend Dr. Charles E. Smith, Pastor (1983 – 2004)

September 1983: Reverend Smith was elected as the 7 th pastor.

1983: The first Orientation Class for new members was started.

1985: The first Young Women’s and Young Men’s Night was established.

May 1986: Elim Baptist Church celebrated its Centennial Anniversary.

June 1991: The Smith/Golden Scholarship was created.

1991: The relationship between Elim and The Church of the Good Shepherd to pursue racial reconciliation.

1992: The Sand Hills Community Churches were organized for corporate worship.

September 2002: The Golden Agers Luncheon was organized by Deacon Ellis M. Johnson.

June 2003: The Summer Enrichment Program was established for students entering K-8.

September 2004: Reverend Dr. Charles E. Smith was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Reverend Christopher Dewayne Roberts, Pastor (2005 – 2015)

2006: Re-Dedication and Consecration Worship Service.

2007: Unity Day Worship Service.

2008: Angel Tree Ministry created.

2009: The Master's Table Soup Kitchen Ministry began and Family and Friends Day on 5 th Sundays.

2014: Minister Jeffrey Jones was ordained.

2015: Elim participated in its 1 st Miracle Mile Breast Cancer Walk.

April 2015: The Health Ministry was organized and provides Blood pressure checks every third Sunday.

Reverend Dr. George Carroll Miller, III, Pastor (2015 - 2022)

2015: 1 st Annual Breakfast with Santa and toy giveaway.

2016: Online Streaming and Giving began.

2017: The History Committee was the recipient of the Historian Award from the Lucy C. Laney Museum.

April 2018: Sponsored Unity in the Community Prayer Walk.

May 2018: Playground equipment was purchased on behalf of the estate of the late Deacon Emeritus Isaac C.L. Wood.

September 2018: Rev. Dr. George C. Miller, III received a Humanitarian Award for his work in the community.

December 2018: Began volunteering at the Bridge Ministry located under the Calhoun Bridge.

April 2019: Elim purchased and dedicated a 15-passenger Van.

October 2020: Elim members participated in Historic Augusta Walk with the Spirits as founder, Deacon Albert

Taylor.

February 2021: Elim celebrated the 50 th Paine College Day.

March 2022: Honored trailblazers Mrs. Louise Garrett and Ms. Ruth Wyse during Women’s History Month.

Reverend Dr. Donald Porter, Interim Pastor (2022 - present)

October 2022: Reverend Dr. Donald Porter began as interim pastor.
